The main things necessary to ensure the safety of the pet and minimally comfortable coexistence are accustoming to the nickname, instilling cleanliness skills, the “To Me”, “Place”, “Sit”, “Nearby”, “Fu” and “Give” teams. Everything else is a matter of your imagination and dog interest.
It’s great if you can take your pet in sports. Representatives of the breed are able to achieve excellent results in agility and frisbee.
Attempts to break the dog’s will and force it to execute commands will only lead to retaliatory resistance, up to aggression. Success can only be achieved when you earn credibility and interest the pet.
Do not forget that these dogs need long active walks and the ability to run freely.
If you are afraid that you can’t cope with the training of the West Highland White Terrier on your own, seek the help of a competent dog handler who is familiar with the characteristics of the breed.
